Looking Forward   7 July 2008

The opposition to the expansion proposals is so great that a Government decision later this year to give BAA the in-principle go-ahead to build a third runway and bring more planes in on the exiting runways may turn out to be irrelevant. BAA would need to bring detailed proposals before a planning or public inquiry. It is highly unlikely that these would be concluded before the next General Election, expected in 2010. With the two main opposition parties opposed to the expansion plans, things could then change significantly.

But the Stop Heathrow Expansion coalition will continue campaigning against the expansion proposals. It will be pro-active campaigning. It will continue to expose the flaws in the Government’s economic case. It will continue to highlight the unacceptable social and environmental costs of expansion. It will continue with our high-profile rallies, demonstrations and campaign events. It will continue to suggest viable alternatives to expansion.
